From concept to full indoor cultivation in less than 3 months
A Minnesota operator redefines what is possible
Minnesota's emerging cannabis market has created a rare window of opportunity with a tightly managed rollout that most view as favoring cultivator success. Still, the fortunate new license holders face the same challenge that has dogged growers in more mature states: tough access to capital, tortuous construction timeline, and locking themselves into infrastructure that can't adapt.
But with arguably the best market prices in the country at stake, a growing number of new cultivators are bucking the trend and getting to market faster than anyone thought possible. To make this more impressive, they aren't cutting a single corner. How? Advanced modular systems built to exacting specifications, offsite, and dropped into place.
A birthday order
"We got the order on my birthday, March 23rd, and we had them installed by early May," Kelsey Friesen, Founder and CEO of Nebula Grow can be heard sharing with the crowd of visitors at NECANN Minnesota, elbowing forward to get a look inside a unit. "We were building the inside of the operation, room by room, while they were building out the facility to house the PODS," he explained. He goes on to boast, "That was fast, but it wasn't our fastest!"
"They," in this case, is Theresa Sorensen and her crew at Unwind Dispensary in Moorhead, MN. "We hesitated, naturally, because it wasn't what everyone does," explained Theresa. "But the opportunity to hit the market eight months sooner at these price points pushed us past our fears. Oh, and it didn't hurt that these were so much easier to finance than our traditional build package."
How did it turn out?
"This is actually the best part of the story," Theresa goes on to share. "The quality of workmanship from Nebula really blew our minds. The fit and finish. The best mechanical and lighting systems in the industry, all tailored to operate seamlessly together. We gained a true appreciation for the years of experience, SOP's, guidance and insights that came with this relationship. Honestly, it's a complete bonus and might turn out to be the most important part of our program."
The timing matters, a lot. "Using the rapid deployment POD Technology from Nebula Grow will help Unwind capture literally millions in revenue they would have watched go by while working through the permitting process, bidding out contractors and hammering nails. But what gets sacrificed with this approach? This is the kicker, nothing!"
Nebula Grow has been delivering high performance modular grow systems for almost 10 years, completing more than 60 full farms supporting almost 2000 units. "We have it dialed," the Nebula folks will say, "but we're always learning." We get it. The systems are ultra durable, cost less than traditional construction, deploy in weeks, produce incredibly consistent product, are easier to work in, scale predictably and enable many more options to manage the business long term. Whether its relocating on the site, moving to another State or selling the system in the active resale market.
As Theresa said, almost under her breath, "We almost didn't do this. Looking back, that would have been a disaster."
